Role Qualifications: (Required) & (Preferred)

BS Physical Sciences - Engineering, Safety, Chemical, Mechanical or Civil; Chemistry, Geology, Biology, Environmental Science, or equivalent (R), Asbestos Management Certificate (P).

5+ Years EHS support in industrial setting (R),  Strong background and experience in multiple facets of safety program implementation and management R EHS compliance (R), Experience in a union environment (P).

Areas of Knowledge:
In-depth knowledge of regulatory compliance with federal, state, and local EH&S requirements including OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, EPA and IDEM. Industrial Hygiene (P), Workers Compensation (R), HAZCOM (R), Lockout/Tagout (R), PPE (R), Ergonomics (R) Stormwater Compliance (R), Pollution Prevention (R), RCRA Reporting (R), Hazardous Waste Manifesting (R).

Implementation and maintenance of safety programs (R) Communications (R), Computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) (R), State of Indiana Class A wastewater operator’s license, or ability to obtain certification within 1 year (R) (Class C license is preferred), Troubleshooting chemical treatment systems (P), Problem solving (R), Licensed Asbestos Inspector (P).

Specific Accountabilities for the Role:

  1. Effectively communicate and ensure compliance with: company policies and procedures; training requirements; accident reporting procedures; Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) directives; Lockout/Tagout/
  2. Try procedures; Confined space entry procedures; the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment  (PPE); and Environmental policies.  Ensure conformance with ISO 14001& OHSAS 18001 requirements... 
  3. Conduct pollution prevention measures
  4. Perform & coordinate detailed technical safety activities
  5. Conduct semi-annual audits to ensure regulatory compliance & distribute reports
  6. Maintain knowledge of OSHA & IOSHA standards
  7. Coordinate industrial hygiene air sampling with provider & communicate results
  8. Develop, implement & assist management with strategic planning for development & use of specific awareness programs
  9. Chair & coordinate activities of the safety and ERT committees to ensure their continued involvement 
  10. Maintain knowledge of  NFPA and ANSI standards
  11. Perform regular inspections as assigned 
  12. Correspond with internal auditors & supervisors to ensure deficiencies are identified and abated
  13. Conduct safety training for management & hourly employees
  14. Administer all safety & health programs through audits & follow-up procedures
  15. Coordinate activities of the safety, ERT and ergonomics committees
  16. Manage the investigation process on all incidents
  17. Maintain and coordinate current industrial hygiene plan with contracted provider & communicate 
    results to management
  18. Develop & implement effective EH & S training programs
  19. Will assist with other EHS related duties as needed
