To provide the technical expertise required in the area of the physical metallurgy of high temperature and corrosion-resistant alloys to enable Haynes International to develop new alloys for traditional and emerging applications, develop data to assist Sales & Marketing in promoting heat resistant alloys, assist the Mill in resolving manufacturing issues, and assist customers in the various industries, etc.
Role Qualifications: (Required & Preferred)
M.S. (R) or Ph.D. (P) Metallurgy, Materials Science or Related Discipline.
10 yrs. w/M.S. (R) or 5 yrs. with advanced degree (P) in primary metals industry (or related end-user) R&D.
Areas of Knowledge:
Advanced: physical metallurgy (R), Thermodynamics and computational techniques (P). Electron microscopy and x-ray and electron diffraction (P). Basic: knowledge of Nickel and Cobalt-based alloy manufacturing technologies, performance, markets and applications (P).
Interpersonal communications, technical writing, word processing and spreadsheet (R).
Specific Accountabilities for the Role:
Take the lead in the conception, planning, and execution of Product Research & Development projects, particularly with regard to high-temperature alloys.
Plan and execute the tasks required for assigned technical projects in accordance with agreed commitments.
Demonstrate analytical and computational skills through the conception of ideas for new or improved products.
Provide technical expertise in the area of the physical metallurgy and Haynes’ alloys to the corporation, including engineering colleagues, the Physical Metallurgy Laboratory, Sales & Marketing, and Manufacturing.
Provide timely customer technical support by responding to e-mail and telephone inquiries for assistance, participating in on- and off-site customer meetings (as directed), and conducting assigned failure analyses.
