Location:   Kokomo, Indiana            Department:  Engineering & Technology

Business Purpose: To provide the technical expertise required in the area of Haynes alloys, with emphasis on the corrosion-resistant alloys.  More specifically, the role will provide expertise in the physical metallurgy and corrosion resistance/behavior of Ni- and Co-base alloys to enable Haynes to develop, manufacture, characterize, and promote new alloy products for traditional and emerging applications. This role will also provide support to Manufacturing, Marketing, and customers in various industries.

Role Qualifications: (Required & Preferred)

Education:
B.S. (R) M.S. or Ph.D. (P) Metallurgy, Materials Science or Related Discipline (e.g., Chemistry, Chem. Engr.)

Experience:
Experience: 5 yrs. w/B.S. (R) or 0-5 yrs. with advanced degree (P) in primary metals industry (or related end-user)

Areas of Knowledge: 
ADVANCED: Physical metallurgy (R), Aqueous corrosion (P), X-ray and electron microscopy (P), BASIC: Knowledge of Ni- and Co-based alloy manufacturing technologies, performance, markets and applications (P). Knowledge of materials related software: Pandat, Thermocalc, etc. (P).

Skills:
Interpersonal communications, technical writing, word processing and spreadsheet (R).

Specific Accountabilities for the Role:
1. Support the conception of Product R&D projects with focus on alloys with superior environmental resistance.
2. Plan and execute the tasks required for assigned technical projects in accordance with agreed commitments.
3. Provide technical support in the production scale-up of a new or an existing alloy.
4. Provide technical expertise in the area of environmental resistance especially to Technology labs, and to manufacturing and sales and marketing.
5. Provide timely customer technical support by responding to e-mail and telephone inquiries for assistance, and conducting assigned technical and failure analyses.
6. Assist the Manager of PR&D in “gate keeping” in the area of environmental resistance for Ni and Co alloys. 
7. Represent Haynes International at technical meetings and outside research consortia as required, including the writing and presenting of technical papers.
